Spring Cleaning Your Apartment

Welcome back to The Mansions at Spring Creek Blog! Spring is coming up fast and we want to help members of our Garland, TX apartment community get ready by doing a little spring cleaning. Read on to get a few tips and ideas of how to get started.

Create a List

Make a list of all the chores you need to get done and everything you need to clean. You could also use a pre-made list from online, like The Ultimate Spring Cleaning Checklist from I Dream of Clean that categorizes everything for you by rooms. It is a good idea to make a list first so you don’t miss anything when you start cleaning.

Declutter and Organize

Before you start scrubbing and vacuuming, it may be helpful to go about decluttering your apartment. Throw away any trash and old or unwanted items. You could make a pile of unwanted clothing or other items to donate to a local thrift store. Use an empty basket to go about collecting stray items around the house and putting them back where they belong.

Clean Room by Room

Pick a room to start with and do all the cleaning required for that room. We recommend starting with the bathroom so you can get all the less appealing scrubbing out of the way. By cleaning one room at a time you can avoid becoming stressed out or overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done. It is important to break down your tasks and give yourself plenty of time to accomplish each of those tasks.

Take Breaks

Make sure to take breaks to eat, drink, and rest. Once you start cleaning it can be difficult to stop, but you also need to remember to take care of yourself and not push your body beyond its limits, especially if doing this stresses you out physically or emotionally to the point where cleaning is extra unenjoyable and dreary. So when you start cleaning, set an alarm on your phone to remind you to take a break within a reasonable amount of time. After about an hour of cleaning, you should give yourself at least a 10 minute break to recharge and evaluate what you’ve accomplished.

Reward Yourself

Once you’ve finished your spring cleaning you can reward yourself with something that you have been wanting. It might be helpful to set this reward before you start cleaning to give you a little motivation to get to work! The reward you choose can be anything from a new item of clothing to a day trip to your favorite place.
